There's a feeling inside Its gonna haunt me until the day I die A voice that leads me out on the open road Staying put is fine But that ain't no path of mine Here comes a big ol' semi carrying an outbound load Oh cause the restless blues have got me Yeah they've really got me on a roll And there ain't a day When they don't come a tugging and a pulling at my soul Oh cause the restless blues have got me Yeah they've really got me on a roll And if the truth be told I'll be like this till I'm old So travel light and be ready to go Well sure this life don't pay But I've made good friends along the way And some loving arms open with some time to lend Oh but come the morning I'm up and gone To go rambling round the bend Another town, another show, another lover another friend Are you ready to go?

This Time 03:38
First time I saw you there That late spring afternoon You were so damn beautiful I could see no-one but you First time I talked to you I asked you to a show We managed to set the night alight But where you went as the sun came up no-body knew Well I've been good for you You've been good for me And when we dance Our bodies swayed perfectly Oh this time You've got to tell me Before you go I've been hanging around For this one last song Do you love me? Oh I've got to know The first time that we kissed The world just melted away Couldn't help but fall for you On that long hot summer's day Oh every time we said goodbye And both went our separate ways I'd be killing time In the autumn rail Counting off those lonely winter days We've both been around And understand Oh love is a gamble There ain't no back up plan Oh this time You've got to tell me Before you go I've been hanging around For this one last song Do you love me? Oh I've got to know

So many years I've been waiting for this day It's your face I see when I'm all alone Over many seasons You've been coursing through my veins Won't you call me back home? Seven summers gone You passed me over Six winters long to find my own style Five ex-lovers to find what I was looking for Three strikes and out and two to bust down the door I could be the one if you could see me now The timing of life well, it has no master There's not enough hours to learn it all Fate well it takes your hand And spins you round and round We were all designed to rise and fall Seven summers gone You passed me over Six winters long to find my own style Five ex-lovers to find what I was looking for Three strikes and out and two to bust down the door I could be the one if you could see me now

There was a time I used to dream with you But now I'm writing a different story To include all the things that we never had the chance to do So I'm taking this day now and calling it all my own The sea breeze is swirling through a two step It wants me to come outside and head down the beach alone All alone Watching all my footprints disappear All alone Wandering if my luck will turn this year All alone The waves crash into me And roll away my fear All alone Oh I call your name out loud I've had enough of living under this cloud This day is a new beginning Been round long enough To know what I can and cannot do Still got long enough ahead of me now For a surprise or two So I'm taking this day And calling it all my own The sea breeze is swirling through a two step It wants me to come outside and head down the beach alone All alone Watching all my footprints disappear All alone Wandering if my luck will turn this year All alone The waves crash into me And roll away my fear All alone Oh I call your name out loud I've had enough of living under this cloud This day is a new beginning Oh today Oh today is a new beginning

Shining warmth of the sun Oh I’d been burned and the road had stretched me thin That winter was the coldest it had ever been Every night I was singing my heart out For paying strangers But then I found a place where I could rest my soul Something strong where I could take a hold I wasn’t looking but that’s the way it goes I found the shining warmth of the sun I saw there’s a race that is yet to be run I learned that two is better than one When I fell in love with you Well seasons come and the seasons surely go Why we parted oh I never really know Now I’m looking for the one who has the sun Come every nightfall Cause you’re the place Where I could rest my soul Something real for my weary arms to hold I’ll sing out for you till everybody knows I found the shining warmth of the sun I saw there’s a race that is yet to be run I learned that two is better than one When I fell in love with you

Till we Find 02:53
There's a blood orange dawn Spilling across the hills With shadows long Our hopes rise with the sun So take me to the sea Let me dream for free And answer the ocean's call And when we are together honey Who could ask for more? I'm with you So ride on baby We can go it alone Summers rolling in Feel the warmth on your skin So lets load up the boards And point this wagon west So pick yourself up, and dust yourself down There's a big old world with good people around That's something that's still worth fighting for I'm with you So ride on baby We can go it alone Down the highways Follow the freeways Till we find what we're looking for

Marine Drive 05:18
It's been too long We've both been travelling far and wide I should have never left your side But you heard my song where I sang That I'll always love you So I hope I'll see you there At Marine Drive Yeah I hope I'll see you there At Marine Drive There's no one else around This summer's for you and me Let's watch the sun go down And sink into the sea Yeah we'll sink into the sea I see you waiting there with your long dark hair More beautiful than memories allow We go ride the waves And then you tell me that you love me So made love right there At Marine Drive Yeah we made love right there At Marine Drive
11.
You tell me all or nothing ain't the way to be You have to plant your roots down to become the tallest tree There's an early end if you live on life's wrong side An end that's six feet deep and three feet wide I've got a mind like Nitrogylcerine I know But I've learned how to burn the fuse down Real nice and slow Times stretches out if you stay away from the edge But honey in the end Everybody's still got to go But honey in the end Everybody's still got to go There's some dreams in life that can come true But I never could have planned them even if I wanted to When I disappear and and finally come to rest You are the one thing I'll miss out of all this mess I've got a mind like Nitrogylcerine I know But I've learned how to burn the fuse down Real nice and slow Times stretches out if you stay away from the edge But honey in the end Everybody's still got to go But honey in the end Everybody's still got to go

Guiding Star 03:49
I don't want to look before I leap Troubled waters running deep You are the one that always taught me You are the one who through the darkness brought me Out of the dark into a brighter land And now I understand Your deep brown eyes help me realise What's a life if you're too scared of living Oh the true joy is not the taking but the giving You can learn it all from that fair Northumberland girl A guiding star in a darkened world One last kiss before I go I'll be seeing you again that much I know You are the one that I'll always remember You are the one who finds the hope in December Ain't no wind or rain that can hold you back And that's the one thing that I lack Your deep brown eyes help me realise What's a life if you're too scared of living Oh the true joy is not the taking but the giving You can learn it all from that fair Northumberland girl A guiding star in a darkened world

Free to Be 05:14
Free to be Here I sit on this valley side Let my thoughts drift into the sun Nothing but the sound of early birdsong A gentle breeze From which I can float my dreams from As clouds drift across the bluest sky I feel all urgency slip away My friends headed southeast years ago now But here from this valley I’ll find my own way I’ll stick to the simple life my friend Sing from the heart and throw away the contract pen To love and be loved To have and to hold Spreading kindness and harmony Being lost in the city ain’t no life for me I hear the river below And go with the flow As the light dances through the leaves Time has lost its track of me now I’ve found a way to listen as mother nature breathes Be still and find a quiet place and you’ll know what I mean It’s not the start and it’s not the end It’s what you make of the highs and lows inbetween I’ll stick to the simple life my friend Sing from the heart and throw away the contract pen To love and be loved To have and to hold Spreading kindness and harmony Being lost in the city ain’t no life for me Back in the Country my minds just free to be
14.
Hold the warmth and hope inside I watch you sleeping by my side An evening's orange glow Alights the western skies A dusty twilight to dream by Oh dreaming of you and I Racing Through rivers of misty green The first leaves unfurling on the old oak tree A buzzard overhead circling a last patrol And beyond lies the open sea calling us one and all The last light of day Reflected as you open your eyes I see the stars one by one As we near the fresh spring tides An evening's orange glow Alights the western skies A dusty twilight to dream by Oh dreaming for you and I And beyond lies the open sea Calling us one and all
15.
Oh watching you grow year by year Full of wander with no sense of fear I'll be cheering just for you as you run for your dreams Develop your heart and see where your path will lead And oh How will you remember me? A shooting star or or your whole galaxy When this life finally lets me be My love will hold you for eternity Oh don't let the dust settle when I'm gone Look for the truth, take the right from the wrong Oh look for the beauty and light in each day Learn to let it go But don't you ever give it away And oh How will you remember me? A shooting star or or your whole galaxy When this life finally lets me be My love will hold you for eternity.

REVIEWS.....
GARY LOURIS, THE JAYHAWKS: ‘The songs are amazing and beautifully recorded… I’m proud to be part of such a cool sounding record’.
MARK OLSON, FOUNDER OF THE JAYHAWKS: ‘Shining Warmth Of The Sun” is a very high class pop-rock song. This reminds me of a radio friendly Replacements… The whole album displays incredible writing and craftsmanship, this album is a classic and will sound great 30 years from now’.
4 STARS MAVERICK MAGAZINE: ‘CANYON RYDE is the vehicle for North Devon-based singer-songwriter Phil Lively-Masters and his superb songs that are evocative of America’s West Coast countryish pop-rock of the late 1960s and early 1970s… with acclaimed players such as singer songwriter Peter Bruntnell and Gary Louris…It is a gorgeous listening experience, especially on the captivating ‘Marine Drive’.

AMERICANA UK: ‘’Subtle and dreamy country boasting a host of Americana luminaries... ‘Canyon Ryde is the chosen vehicle of singer songwriter Philip Lively-Masters, ably assisted on this record by the legendary guitar talents of Gary Louris. ‘Free to Be’ is a great country record that is subtle in its approach, gentle in its intentions and presented in a fine packaging that shows that Canyon Ryde is more than a band, more than an album, it’s an experience that they want you to join them in’
Sony/Universal Music Historian Richard Havers: ‘Big Names in The Making’…The MAVERICK FESTIVAL... the opening act on the main stage – named Sweet Home Alabama, was the intriguingly named Canyon Ryde, featuring the exquisite songs of Phil Lively-Masters. Imagine you’ve been stranded on a California hill farm circa 1969 and you get the vibe. Their music is just so damned catchy!’

SPIRAL EARTH – ‘Free To Be’ shortlisted for AMERICANA RELEASE OF THE YEAR: ‘A scenic journey taking in all the romance of the beaches, sunsets, and as many carefree moments as can be shoe-horned into one album… 'Restless Blues' morphs into a fuzz-fest of guitars, with Louris sailing close to a Clarence White wig out. 'Shining Warmth Of The Sun' is a DNA tangle of The Byrds and The Jayhawks. 'Till We Find' and 'New Beginning' are modern Americana chipped from a classic mold with vocals to melt the blackest heart. As the album progresses, and the shadows lengthen, the tracks relax into elongated meditations with 'Beyond Lies The Open Sea' stretching to over eight minutes of psychedelic Hammond organ and riffs. Following up is 'Seven Summers' layering on sheets of glorious melancholy for a memorable coda. A musical companion to remind you why we slog through the hard times’.

MOJO MAGAZINE: ‘The sticker on the front cover of Canyon Ryde's debut states that their music is "sun kissed Americana circa 1968 to 1972" and, according to their site "promise plenty of summer good vibes and a brew of Hammond driven, fuzzy guitar powered Country/Rock/Pop!". These claims have been fully supported by an excellent and very mature sounding debut in ‘Free to Be’. Even the cover art suggests something from that period… Another fine example of a talented ‘under the radar’ British outfit producing American inspired music as good as, if not better, than a lot of Americans on the same trip. Highly Recommended!’

UNCUT MAGAZINE: ‘A prime platter for those of you who prefer your sounds smoked in the glow of porch reclining country blues idly watching the falling arc of drifting clouds whispering gently over the horizon amid sun glazed lulls, perfect for those attuned to the soft driftwood sounds of Buffalo Springfield and Gram Parsons and dare we say variously selected nuggets oft found occupying the grooves of platters once upon a time put out by Scottish cult labels Shoeshine and Spit n’ Polish, as to the track ‘Free to be’, itself utterly blissful replete with steel guitar opines, hushed harmonicas and lush in feel good carefree vibes’.

5 STARS AMAZON I had the good fortune to see this band support The Jayhawks last year and have kept an eye on them ever since. This is such a mature debut and crammed full of great tunes. Go get yourself a copy!
